Upgrading Your Office Equipment and Software

Do you still have one or more of these in your office? If so, it’s time to upgrade your equipment!

The top 3 reasons to upgrade your office equipment and software are:

1. Potential clients will see you as behind the times and not put much faith in the fact that your skills are up with the times.

2. Potential employees will be turned off to work harded not smarter.

3. Old equipment is a huge time suck and ends up costing you more in the long run.

If your equipment is more than five years old, upgrade it. If your equipment is 2-5 years old, you may be able to upgrade it.

Before you can decide if you are going to upgrade or buy new devices, you need to know two things:

1. What Operating System does your current device run on?

2. Is that device going to allow you to upgrade to Windows 10?

To determine if the device that you already have will allow you to make an upgrade follow the instructions in the following link: Windows 10 Specifications

If you determine that you can upgrade your device, you may be able to upgrade it for free. Cnet.com shared this link showing how to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10:

If you’re ready to upgrade, you should consider if you are going to continue to use desktops or is switching over to laptops and/or tablets the better option. This is all going to depend on your individual needs.

Ask yourself this question; “Do you need more RAM or more portability?”

Read “Desktops vs Laptops” to help make your decision.

If you have a computer that runs on XP or Vista, you need to buy a new computer. PERIOD!

If you have a computer that runs on Windows 7, you should upgrade it to Windows 10. It makes no sense to upgrade to Windows 8 now and then, a year from now, be forced to switch it to Windows 10. Everything runs on Windows 10 and so should you.

Printers, Copiers, Fax Machines, Scanners & Telephone Systems

Do you have one these in your office? If you do, it’s time to upgrade your equipment.

The choices include Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and more. If you spend any amount of time online, you have a favorite browser; a go-to if you will.

Read “Choosing An Internet Browser” where I share my favorites with you and tell you why.

QuickBooks

If you are using the desktop version of QuickBooks and you have version 15 or older, you will need to upgrade to 17 or switch to the online version. Intuit will not offer support or allow you to buy more licenses without upgrading. I will write another post about this as my next article.
